2009_02_26 Thursday

Jonathan slept a bit later than usual today, but that's fine. It's an overcast, although warm day. I was inspired (somehow) to actually get dressed up today; I wore dress pants, a tank top, a cardigan, a scarf, and low heals! And, Jonathan looked mighty dashing himself.

So, after breakfast, we packed into the car, dropped off some mail, got $, and then headed to the Newark Museum. I really wanted to see their fire house exhibit, so why not today!? We got there a smidge early, but the docents went nuts over Jonathan. There were hundreds of school trips there and an elderly group as well. Once they opened, we headed to their mini-zoo to see a marmoset, snakes, fishies, a turtle, a trantula, 3 lizards, and a couple of other little beasts. Then, we swung by their money exhibit for kids. Since it was so quiet, the docent offered to let us play with some alphabet magnets and a board that is supposed to teach about the stock market listings. Jonathan loved all the letters. I swear he picked up an "M" and said "M"! same with "S". And, he stacked up all the "Os". We spelled out his name. It was fun.

Then, we did a bit for mom: traditional art paintings and a home of some sort.

THEN, the big finale. The fire house is a separate building, and I got conflicting answers on whether it was open. So, as we were leaving, I asked one last time if it was. The docent got on his walky-talky and ensured me that he had personally sent someone over to open it for us!!! How cool. We wandered through the olden day fire house, but the piece de resistance was an actual, modern fire truck (front) that kids can climb into and 'drive.' Jonathan got dressed in a fireman's suit with hat, and I plunked him into the driver's seat. He loved it! I showed him how to push the emergency lights, and he could barely contain himself. I have 3 photos of him. He was so unimpressed when I made him leave.

Of course, the visit messed up his nap schedule. We got home close to 2, so I put him down right away, and he slept until 5:30 (with no lunch). I gave him a 1/2 peanut butter sandwich, and we ran out the door to get Dave. When we got home, the boys played outside pushing a ride-on bus up and down the street to get some energy out.

After dinner, I gave Jonathan a bath and put him to bed so Dave could finish up some work. What a disaster! He wailed and wailed. I went in a few times, and he kept throwing his pacifier at his bed. Dave finally went in around 10, and Jonathan was wide awake. They played for a little bit more, and he finally went down. Guess mommies shouldn't put babies to bed. :o)
