We are in IL. can't even remember what we did, but Shannon and Raj had to work, so Oma, Jonathan, and I spent the day recovering. We did find a local park/playground and then explored a small pond with geese.
It was kind of nice to have a down day to get to know Chicago Baron and the lay of the land before the big party on Saturday. Baron has a red ball that has a tube to the center which allows treats to fall out when he rolls it just right. What fun! He can control that ball as well as a soccer player. Once he gets the right position that releases the treats, he can keep it straight and at the right speed that he just "hoovers" up the fallen treats without missing a beat. Jennifer did some party shopping while Jonathan and I explored the house and found some very exciting things. We read Shannon and Raj's wedding books; Jonathan can clearly say everyone's name. I especially like how he says "Raj" but "Oma" is pretty impressive too. After a nap we 3 walked to a small playground that had a twirly slide and bars to climb on. Swings were good, too. We took Baron with us. On the way home we found a catchment pond with a couple of ducks. What does a duck say, Jonathan? Ducks quack; geese and a goose honk; horses neigh; cats meow; dogs woof; turtles scrunch their heads down into their necks; fish wiggle their lips; snakes ssssss; crabs pinch with their thumbs and forefingers; bears grrr and lions roar; elephants make raspberries; chickens bock and crows awwwk; but the best are lizards--they stick out their tongues (and giggle). Shannon had graduate class tonight so Raj made us dinner. Jonathan can put away a plateful of food using his fork and spoon, regardless of the chef. I don't think I've ever seen him refuse to try something. He's learning to drink from a big boy's cup without the sippy part.
This blog was created for our friends and family who don't get to see us -- well, Jonathan and Elise, really -- as often as they'd like. I'm trying to keep you all updated on their milestones and their day-to-day activities. I also hope this will serve as sort of a journal for them as well, something for them to read when they are older that chronologues (is this a word?) their lives. When I can, I'll post pictures and even videos to help bridge the distance.
