We spent the day at the Brookfield Zoo in Chicago. Impressive zoo; it's enormous. Jonathan was able to identify the strangest animals: bison?! Their monkey exhibit -- well, all of their exhibits -- are amazing. Jonathan actually yelled out "no more monkeys jumping on the bed" when he saw the monkeys!!! I couldn't believe it; that's 8 syllables!!!! Of course, we couldn't stop having him repeat it over and over. They didn't accept my zoo reciprocity, which sort of stunk. Parking was absurdly rediculous.
Then, Jonathan had his first dentist visit with Uncle Dr Raj. Both did great!
Then, we went out for a joint birthday dinner to the Schnitzel Haus. The musicians even sang Happy Birthday to us. Jonathan wasn't great there, but we had enough people to occupy him. It was a really nice night out.

60,000 of our closest friends joined us at the Brookfield Zoo on a very warm and cloudless day, but not one was as well behaved, interested and knowledgeable as our J2. He identified the peacock (on a billboard) as his personal favorite animal. The emu (or maybe ostrich) is his second favorite and he pointed it out to us, also. He was amused as the seal waved as he swam by at eye level, although he wasn't as amused that he had to leave his carriage at the door and be carried thru the exhibit. I think he pointed out the seal's belly button. He liked the turtles in the South America house, too.
After a long afternoon in the sun, a quick stop for a tooth count in Uncle Dr. Raj's special chair was a cooling experience. Actually J2 liked Uncle Dr. Raj's special mask and toothpaste/brush/floss drawer. He made sure we all had samples before we left for dinner. Jonathan was extra cooperative at the first tooth count as he used his mother's tummy as a booster chair. He opened his mouth very wide and smiled extra big, too. (Bye-bye eyes.) The tiny little mirror was a challenge to see his whole face in, but he enjoyed being allowed to put something not food in his mouth.
Dinner at the German restaurant was fun when Jonathan and I danced the Chicken Dance, but service was slow-ish, at least after a long day in the sun. We went outside to cool off and solve world problems. By the time we had found solutions to the most pressing issues, dinner was served and life became immediately better. The waitress delivered a birthday apple dumpling to Auntie Shannon and Jennifer and the accordion and base players lead us in the birthday song. Jonathan knows that song, at least the tune and the syllables.
Bed felt really good on Friday night.
